The use of polymeric materials has in the last decades increased, both at home and in industry. Polymeric materials have large advantages over metals, which have traditionally been used for a long time. They weigh less, are easier to manufacture and more complicated shapes can be produced without costing more. Polymeric materials can thus lead to both energy savings and also lower the cost for materials and production. However, polymeric materials don’t have different properties compared to metals which is challenging when it comes to the design and construction of components where these materials are included.
My research is towards more high-performance polymeric materials, which must withstand temperatures above 100 ° C and which are reinforced to obtain better strength. I try to understand the mechanisms underlying the frictional and deformation behavior of these polymeric materials in tribological contacts. I also try to explain the structure and function of polymeric tribo films.
