I am a senior lecturer in English linguistics and teach English proficiency (grammar, composition, vocabulary and pronunciation) at the first term and second term levels. I also give courses in linguistics at the second and third term levels and supervise degree project essays. Some terms I am also involved in the Translator’s Programme where I teach a course on contrastive text linguistics. At present, however, I am Director of Studies and teach only part-time.
I completed my Ph.D. at Stockholm University in 1991, did a post-doc year in Cambridge 1991-1992, mainly in phonetics. I have taught at Stockholm University, Gävle University College and since 2002 I am an employee of Uppsala University.
My research interests include phonetics and attitudes to accented English (which was the topic of my Ph.D.), but I have since come to be more interested in pronouns and definiteness, translation topics and contrastive text linguistics. I am particularly interested in the text of annual reports from Swedish and English banks, in how reference and cohesion are created and maintained in these texts.
