Sjöborg's research interests include youth and religion, especially new ways of getting in touch with religion, attitudes towards religion and what role religion plays for young people's attitudes towards human rights. He is PI of Teaching Religion in Late Modern Sweden: Professionalism on the borders between public and private. The research is part of the research programme The Impact of Religion. Currently, Sjöborg is head of department at the Department of Theology.
