Short presentation

I am an assistant professor in the aesthetics divisions of the philosophy department. My research falls where aesthetics and ethics meet. The sorts of issues I think and write about are:

The ethics of artworks, fictional representations, the imagination, and their authors
The relationship between the ethical value and artistic value of artworks
The nature and ethics of cultural appropriation
Why people care about competitive games with trivial outcomes
The relationship between art and oppression

Biography

Innan jag kom till Uppsala var jag Humboldt Postdoctoral Fellow vid Universität Hamburg, postdoktor i estetik vid Auburn University, Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellow vid University of Southampton, där jag drev forskningsprojektet Art & Ethics, och postdoktor vid Instituto de Investigaciones Filosóficas vid UNAM. Jag tog en doktorsexamen i filosofi vid University of Michigan 2016 och en MA vid University of Sheffield 2009.

Research

My research is mainly in aesthetics and ethics. Much of it tackles questions concerning values and what philosophers call ‘normativity’ in art, art appreciation, and other aesthetic activities. My work is increasingly occupied with how oppressive social relations condition aesthetic activities. I am currently working on a book about whether and how ethical properties affect the aesthetic value of artworks
