I am interested in "omics", high-throughput sequencing and their application in biodiversity research. In my PhD that is part of the SponGES consortium (http://www.deepseasponges.org/), I will generate and integrate genomic and metabolomic data of the deep-sea marine sponge Geodia barretti to address fundamental research questions about sponge biodiversity and habitat connectivity as well as applied questions such as the identification of metabolites as lead compounds for drug discovery.
