Transition to parenthood by ART, with focus on surrogacy in Sweden and India

My research is about surrogacy both in a Swedish and in an Indian context. Both Sweden and India lack regulations on surrogacy, although it is permitted to use surrogacy in India but not in Sweden. Swedish couples have then turned to India for surrogacy. In Sweden my research focuses primarily on social and legal aspects of surrogacy. I investigate commissioning parents’ experiences of using surrogacy and also social workers’ experiences of handling cases involving surrogacy. My research in India focuses primarily on perceptions to surrogacy as a possible option to parenthood. The theoretical approach is based on social constructivism. There is a lack of empirical studies and this is needed for well-based decision-making about surrogacy.
