Christin Mays

Short presentation

I am currently the research coordinator at the Swedish Institute for North American Studies (SINAS), a division of the Department of English.

In 2022, I received my PhD in Sociology of Education with a History of Education focus. I investigated the historical development of international scholarship programs and their role in structuring scholarly exchanges between Sweden and the United States from 1912-1980.

Biography

I have a PhD in Sociology of Education from Uppsala University (2022). During my PhD studies, I was part of both the History of Education (SHED) and the Sociology of Education and Culture (SEC) research groups. As part of my departmental duties, I taught courses in history of education and sociology of education as well as supervised student essays and theses in a variety of disciplines. I was particularly active in teaching exchange students and international master's students.

I received my MA in History from Uppsala University in 2011, and my thesis focused on Swedish efforts in the cultural reconstruction of post-World War II Europe. From 2012-2015, I was a research assistant in several research environments at Uppsala University, including at the Hugo Valentin Centre (HVC), the Department of History, and the Swedish Institute for North American Studies (SINAS).

Research

My research focuses broadly on research funding, transatlantic cultural exchanges, and Swedish-American relations in the 20th century.
