Genetic engineering for increased CO2-fixation:
It has been shown that engineering cyanobacteria, biofuels can be produced. However, the amount of product obtained is still low. One solution is to increase the amount of carbon fixation. In 2010 Bar-Even et al. used bioinformatics and created synthetic metabolic pathways in order to fix carbon more efficiently. The aim of my PhD is to introduce the MOG pathway - Lactate option into the cyanobacterium Synechocystis PCC 6803.
