Recently I received my Ph.D. from the University of Tulsa (USA) in materials chemistry prior to joining the sodium battery group here at UU in Jun 2019.
My current projects are
- Redox flow batteries using sodium metal as an anode booster
- Metal anodes (including lithium and sodium)
- Environmentally friendly battery recycling and recovery of electrode materials

My present research involves development of a redox flow battery which uses sodium metal hybrid anolyte.
Metal anodes (particularly sodium, lithium, and magnesium) have eluded practical use for a number of reasons (instability, short cycle life, etc). We are investigating methods that one day may realize use of metal anodes in production batteries.
Previous work using choline chloride was published elsewhere. Choline chloride has been used to extract metals from ores and other materials, and similar chemical are currently used to extract nutrients from food (such as vitamins). We will continue along this line of inquiry in developing an envioronmentally benign and inexpensive technique for recovering and recycling battery materials.
