Recently I received my Ph.D. from the University of Tulsa (USA) in materials chemistry prior to joining the sodium battery group here at UU in Jun 2019.

My current projects are

  • Redox flow batteries using sodium metal as an anode booster
  • Metal anodes (including lithium and sodium)

My present research involves development of a redox flow battery which uses sodium metal hybrid anolyte. We are incorporating new ideas using novel reagents for separate anode (anolyte) and cathode (catholyte) compartments separated by a semi-permeable ceramic membrane. The principle here is more like an ion battery than a flow battery, but is most correctly a combination of both of these technologies.

Metal anodes (particularly sodium, lithium, and magnesium) have eluded practical use for a number of reasons (instability, short cycle life, etc). We are investigating methods that one day may realize use of metal anodes in production batteries.
