My research activities concern primarily the areas of molecular/nano/bio photonics, computational nano-, bio-and biomedical technology and X-ray physics, being a mix of method development and problem oriented applications in collaboration with experimentalists.
I graduated 1979 as PhD in experimental atomic and molecular physics at Uppsala U. After a couple of PostDoc years in USA I became in 1981 assistant professor in Quantum Chemistry at Lund U, in 1983 associate professor in the same subject at Uppsala U, and in 1989 research professor appointed by the Natural Science Research Council. I became the first in Sweden holder of a chair in Computational Physics in 1990 (Linköping University) and first at KTH (Royal institite of Technology, Stockholm) holder of a chair in Theoretical Chemistry in 1998, where I head (to 2017) the Department of Theoretical Chemistry and Biology. Since 2018 I am back in Uppsala, now as Senior professor. I participate in a number of national and international networks in my research areas and hold several guest professorships abroad. Among awards I can mention the Uppsala Bjurzon award, the Swedish Björn Roos award and the Changjiang Distinguished Professorship awarded by the Ministry of Education of China.
During the last couple of years I have been involved in the following research
X-ray Physics; Cationic NEXAFS, RIXS on small molecules; XPS on solvents and interfaces (Collaboration; Fysikum, SU, CNR Pisa)
New biomarkers for neurodegenerative diseases (Collaboration Karolinska Institute, Stockholm)
Upconversion nanoparticles for bioimaging and solar cell applications (collaboration: SUNY at Buffalo, Henan U, Harbin Institute of Technology)
Ultrafine, 1 – 10 nm, plasmonic nanoparticles, for single molecular sensing, bioimaging and nanophotonics (collaboration KTH, Siberian Federal University)
Thermally activated delayed fluoresence and phosphoresence for molecular probing (collaboration, Fudan U Shanghai, NTU Singapore )
Optical, magnetic and electronic properties of 2D materials (collaboration Shenzhen U)
OLED materials (collaboration: Copenhagen U, Kaunas U,Lvov U, Cherkassy U)
Panchromatic porphyrin-sensitized solar cells (Collaboration: ECUST Shanghai)
Ionic liquids for CO2 capture reactions (Henan University)
