Microbiologist, designer, MSc in Universidad de Los Andes and PhD student in Uppsala University with interest in biotechnology, microbial ecology, hologenome concept, environmental microbiology and design of functional living materials. The Scientific work is focused in gut and whole microbiota analysis, novel cell immobilization methods to make live surfaces in order to enhance bioremediation and biological control process. The design work is focused on merging biological aspects with design methodologies to compose forms of “see science” and “feeling science”.


The interaction between host and its associated microbiota related to the microbial ecological and Holobiont level are ones of the keystones in order to understand changes in traits such as health, behavior and host evolution. Different natural stress factors or the ones released by anthropogenic activity have a stunning influence on the microbiota from the gastrointestinal tract in all organisms. Previous studies have demonstrated that environmental chemicals and other resources of stress can induce vast changes in the gut microbiota composition of animals. Hence, it is important to study changes in the diversity and abundance of the gut microbiota related to the release of the stress hormone. This can help to disentangle the multidimensional effects that the stress has on health. The research goal of our projects is focused on understanding the effects of different stress factors in the gut microbiota of different types of model organism. Furthermore, exploring the secondary effects of those stress factors as an environmental pollutant and also how the changes in the microbial community can be shared between environment-organism and between trophic chains.
