My research concerns the introduction of new programs and technologies for transparency, accountability and quality in organizational fields. I have particularly focused on these changes in relation to field formation processes, the work and autonomy of professionals and the emergence of new organizational forms. I am also interested in the changing boundaries between public and private in healthcare as well as healthcare as a transnational field. I am currently leading a research project on strategic communication in healthcare. This project is concerned with the development and adaptation of practices associated with ideas such as ‘branding’ and ‘reputation management’. These changes in communication practices are partly driven by an institutional transformation where marketization and quests for transparency have been general traits. In the project, we investigate how this development relates to fundamental questions concerning organizational identity and legitimacy. Theoretically, I have primarily been interested in organizational institutionalism, translating and institutional change processes, the sociology of professions, governmentality and more generally, theories in public management.
