I studied Veterinary Medicine at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala, Sweden and did my PhD in Veterinary Medicine at the same university in 2009 with the title "Characterisation of diabetes mellitus in Dogs". I pursued my post-doctoral training at Dept of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Karolinska Institutet 2010-2012 in Genetic Epidemiology. I moved to Uppsala University in 2013 and qualified as an Associate Professor in Epidemiology the same year. My research programme emcompasses diabetes etiology and epidemiology in humans using large-scale omics analysis and traditional epidemiology tools. Currently my main focus is on the metabolomic and proteomic fingerprint of insulin sensitivity and the genetic epidemiology of diabetic heart disease but I am also interested in how dog-ownership affects human health.
I am the main supervisor for doctoral students Mwenya Mubanga, Chris Nowak, Lisa Wernroth and Mikael Janiec and assistant supervisor to Markus Stenemo and Prasad Kamble at Uppsala University and Emma Strage and Malin Öhlund, who are PhD-students at SLU.
