Biography

Much of my research takes place in Nicaragua, one of the poorest countries in Latin America. My background lies in the field of sexual and reproductive health among most-at-risk groups for HIV infection such as men have sex with men, sex workers, adolescents, and drug users. I have vast experience in collecting data in community-based and clinical studies. I was the Executive Director of the Centre for Demography and Health Research (CIDS) at the National University of Nicaragua. At CIDS, I conducted research and coordinate undergraduate and postgraduate academic programs. Currently, I am a researcher and lecturer at the Master's program in Global Health at the International Maternal and Child Health (IMCH) at Uppsala University. Furthermore, I am currently working in three main areas: sexuality and reproductive health and rights among adolescents, migration, and HIV, AIDS and STIs in Developing countries such as Nicaragua, Mozambique, and Colombia.
