Kampei Hayashi is a guest researcher at Uppsala University, Sweden, and an associate professor at Shinshu University, Japan. His research involves the application of area studies and comparative perspectives in examining the development of the global education policy market and its impact on the field of education. With his background as a primary school teacher in Sweden and Japan, his research covers a broad range of topics from global policies to daily classrooms practices.

He has published more than 30 academic articles, which includes co-edited and co-authored books such as Kampei H. (2019), Education Export and Import: New Activities on the Educational Agora, in Mølstad C. E. & Pettersson D. (Eds.). New Practices of Comparison, Quantification and Expertise in Education: Conducting Empirically Based Research, 175-188, Routledge. He received the ERC Best Poster Award from the European Educational Research Association for the presentation “Comparative Analysis on the Trends of Exporting Education” in 2016, and two other academic awards from Japanese education research associations for papers on global marketisation of education policy. He has received 20 research grants and is currently working on a project on Education Export and International Capital Transfer, among others.
