Vaia Doudaki is Associate Professor (Docent) at the Department of Informatics and Media, in Uppsala University. Her research focuses on the study of media, conflict and crisis, on theory and practice of newsmaking and journalism, on community and participatory media. Broadly speaking, she is interested in the study of representations, identities and discourse, within and through media.

CV Summary

Vaia Doudaki is Associate Professor (Docent) at the Department of Informatics and Media, in Uppsala University.

She has worked as a Lecturer and Assistant Professor of Media Studies and Journalism at the Department of Communication and Internet Studies, in Cyprus University of Technology (2010 - 2017). She has also been director of the MA in Digital Media and Journalism, offered by the department of Communication and Internet Studies, for five years (2011-2015).

Dr. Doudaki holds a PhD from the Department of Communication, Media and Culture, of Panteion University (Athens, Greece), specializing in the sociology of news production (2004).

She has worked as a post-doctoral researcher at Panteion University (2007-2009). She has taught at Panteion University (2005-2009) and at the National Centre of Public Administration and Local Government (Athens, Greece, 2007–2008). She has also worked for several years as a journalist for print and internet media (Athens, Greece, 2004-2009).

Her research and publications focus on the study of media, conflict and crisis, on theory and practice of newsmaking and journalism, on journalistic identities and practices in the internet era, on audience, community and participatory media. Broadly speaking, she is interested in the study of representations, identities and discourse, within and through media.
