As a PhD student my interest focuses on the legacy of past. The microbial studies usually discuss ' snap-shots' results, finding the effects of environmental conditions on different communities at the same time. However, the revealed patterns could be influenced by delayed response times of communities towards environmental changes/disturbances. Thus, the present-day communities (its composition) may explain and reflect to the past conditions (historical processes) to a greater extent.
For investigating this topic, I focus on rock pools as natural aquatic model systems, analysing their organisms (bacteria, virus, fungi, algae, zooplankton) in the aspects of metacommunity phylogenetics.
