I am interested on all aspects of the biogeochemistry of inland waters. My research focuses on understanding the role of freshwater systems as sources or sinks of carbon, considering some key environmental issues – damming of rivers, eutrophication and climate change. I am currently working to contribute on answering the questions ‘how much carbon is sequestered in the sediment of hydroelectric reservoirs?’ and ‘is this carbon sequestration a new sink on the global carbon cycle?’.
