PerOla Öberg's research interests include Public Administration, Interest Groups, Corporatism, Lobbying, Industrial Relations, Trust, and Deliberation. His main current interests concern Expertise and Public Policy, Civil Society, Deliberative Governance, and the use of learning, experience and "knowledge" in public policy.
He has published in e.g. Journal of European Public Policy, Public Administration, Policy Sciences, Public Administration Review, Political Studies, Policy Studies Journal, West European Politics, Governance, Economic and Industrial Democracy (2002 and 2009), Scandinavian Political Studies (2002 and 2012), Rationality and Society, Government and Opposition, and in European Political Science Review.
"Expert knowledge use and deliberation in local policy making" was 2015 awarded the 29th Harold D. Lasswell Prize, which is given annually to the article published in Policy Sciences that contributes most to the theory and practice of the policy sciences.
