Dr. Chitra Sinha has taught the University of Mumbai, SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai, India, Visva Bharati University, India and Royal University for Women, Bahrain covering a wide range of subjects in the area of social sciences, including research methodology, gender studies, history, and political science, sociology, and media studies.. She has conducted research in the areas of history of women’s education, family law reforms, communication and social consciousness, role of media in society, and broader issues of human rights. She did her Ph.D. in the Department of History, University of Mumbai and had been recipient of several prestigious fellowships including the Fellowship of Asiatic Society, Mumbai, New India Foundation Book Writing Fellowship and the South Asia Regional Fellowship of Social Science Research Council, Ford Foundation, USA in the past. Her book “Debating Patriarchy: The Hindu Code Bill Controversy in India (1941-56)” was published by Oxford University Press in 2012. She has been associated with two premier institutions of Women’s Studies globally– as an associate professor in women’s studies at the Research Centre for Women’s Studies, S.N.D.T Women’s University, Mumbai, India and as a visiting fellow at the Centre for Study of Women at the University of California, Los Angeles, USA. Presently she is working on a book on Women, Law and Society in Asia and the Middle East and also writing another book on “Parliamentary Debates in Bahrain” to be published by Sage Publications later this year. She has published several articles in edited books and international journals and has also presented numerous papers in international conferences.
