Kort presentation

I am interested in explanatory approaches to language change. In my postdoctoral project, I investigate the role of extralinguistic factors in the loss and accrual of linguistic complexity. More specifically, I am testing the hypothesis that non-native acquisition is likely to facilitate morphological simplification, using experimental and computational approaches to complement the existing typological data.

I also serve as the coordinator of the Uppsala Working Group on Empirical linguistics.

Apart from the project briefly described above, I am also doing a bunch of related and not-so-related things. See CV for the list of my previous employments and the full publication list (the publications listed below are only those that are registered in DIVA, i.e. the most recent ones).

When I am not working, I am with my kids, and when I am neither working nor with my kids, I am dancing tango.

The official Roman spelling of my full name is Aleksandrs, but people usually call me Sasha (that's a common Russian hypocorism). Alex (or Aleks) is fine, too.
