Research:

My research focuses on the functioning of inland waters in the global carbon cycle. My analyses address the transport and transformation of carbon in lakes and rivers in a changing climate, and the role of freshwater phytoplankton in global carbon cycling.

Forskning

My research deals with the biogeochemistry of inland waters:

  • Currently, my focus is on the functioning of inland waters in the global carbon cycle. My analyses concentrate on the transport and transformation of carbon in lakes and rivers in a changing climate, and the role of freshwater phytoplankton in global carbon cycling. I mainly focus on modelling/statistics using monitoring data on biogeochemical variables. The project is linked to the EU Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions - Innovative Training Network "C-Cascades" (Carbon Cascades from Land to Ocean in the Anthropocene, http://c-cascades.ulb.ac.be/), and the network GLEON (Global Lake Ecological Observatory Network, http://www.gleon.org).
  • During my master studies at Trier University and the German Federal Institute of Hydrology (BfG), I worked on the biogeochemistry of regulated rivers. Specifically, I dealt with the effects of thermal stratification at the heavily regulated river Saar (Germany) on phytoplankton and nutrient dynamics. To adress this issue I analysed continous measurement data, conducted field measurements as well as performed laboratory measurements.
