Forskning

My research activity develops around the following points:

  • Investigation of the magnetic properties of materials with nano- and amorphous structures.
  • Study of interface effects at nanoscale
  • Development of novel magnetic materials by engineering multilayers, magnetic patterns, composites and superstructures.
  • Tuning the magnetic behavior by finite size effects, surface effects and molecular coating.

My investigation aims to combine different (nano)structures, materials, interfaces, to design (meta)materials with emerging properties. The goal is to shed light on the connection between structures and magnetic properties to engineer such materials.

I have developed skills in chemical and physical method for sample preparation, from wet chemistry synthesis (e.g., high thermal decomposition, polyol process, sol-gel) to magnetron sputtering. Particular attention is devoted to a precise structural characterization (X-ray diffraction, reflectivity, EXAFS, infrared spectroscopy, thermos-gravimetrical analysis) and magnetic properties (SQUID and VSM magnetometry, Mössbauer spectroscopy, magneto-optical Kerr effect magnetometry, MOKE microscopy). The design of new materials/structures is developed iterating between their theoretical modelling (micromagnetic simulations), their structural characterization and the magnetic properties investigation, in a continuous material engineering process.
