Kort presentation

I am a researcher at the Department of History of Science and Ideas. My primary research interests lie in the politics, practices and technologies of knowledge. I work in the interdisciplinary tradition Science and Technology Studies. My work draws on sociology, anthropology, history of science, cultural studies, and media studies. My work has dealt with the valuation of knowledge in the biosciences, epistemic standards, and exclusion in socio-technical processes.

Biografi

I’m currently studying the valuation of biomedical knowledge in the project Trials of Value. I am in the startup phase of two projects: The Rise of Infodemiology which studies the increasing use of social data in epidemiological disease surveillance, and Medicine at the Borders of Life which studies the historical emergence of ethics in foetal research.

My work on the valuation of biomedical knowledge examines the ways in which different values—such as economic, ethical, scientific values—are balanced in biomedical experiments. When can economy be traded for ethics? Or scientific rigour for efficiency? My work on disease surveillance aims to examine how computer algorithms—seen as social and cultural devices— constitute and value people, disease, and risks in epidemiological practice. Do new ideas about disease and medical intervention emerge with new technologies? My work on the emergence of ethical controversy in foetal research aims to compare arguments about the value of life in human foetal research, animal research, and agricultural practices in Sweden.

I have published in for example Science, Technology & Human Values; Science as Culture; and History and Technology. I have co-edited Value Practices in the Life Sciences (Oxford University Press, 2015) and Posthumanistiska nyckeltexter [Posthumanist Key Texts] a Swedish reader on posthumanist theory (Studentlitteratur, 2011). I am a co-founder of the network Algorithms as Devices of Power and Valuation. I’m also a member of the editorial board of the journal Valuation Studies. I am curently working on a co-authored monograph provisionally titled Trials of Value.
