I am a PhD student at the department of Ecology and Genetics of Uppsala University. My main areas of interest are population genetics, coalescent theory and understanding causes and consequences of recombination cessation in sex chromosome evolution.

I have an undergraduate degree in Molecular and Cell Biology from Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, Iran. In 2011, I started the Erasmus Mundus Master in Evolutionary Biology (Groningen University, University of Montpellier II and Uppsala University). During my master studies, I worked on detecting signatures of selection on human lactase persistence gene together with selection signals detectable on cattle breeds, trying to link together the two. I then worked on a second project on ostrich sex chromosome, trying to date the timing of cessation of recombination in this unusual group of birds. After my master studies, I had a research experience at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig where I trained my skills on working with large scale population data in chimpanzee. I've been a PhD student at the lab of Hans Ellegren at Uppsala University since September 2014, working on various projects, from sex chromosome evolution to detecting signatures of balancing selection in natural populations.
