I studied at the University of Essex (UK) and the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain), where I completed my thesis in English literature in late 2010. Over the next three years I taught English language and culture at the Universidad de Alcalá (Spain).
I came to Uppsala in early 2014 to research forms of working-class resistance in 20th- and 21st-century British writing. My current work combines a theoretical interest in the analyses and formulations of Italian operaismo and Marxist Autonomism (and a number of complementary critical theories, from Foucault to Deleuze and beyond) with a focus on class antagonism in the fiction of Alan Sillitoe, Pat Barker, James Kelman, Irvine Welsh and Niall Griffiths, among others.
My previous work has dealt with George Orwell and with the political thought of British Cultural Studies, as well as with socialist and proletarian writing in Britain and the United States.
Most recently, I have published papers on Raymond Williams and E.P. Thompson in internationally refereed edited collections and journals such as Key Words: A Journal of Cultural Materialism and Culture, Theory and Critique. I have also coedited and contributed to a volume on sexual politics in Caribbean literature: The Cross-Dressed Caribbean: Writing, Politics, Sexualities (University of Virginia Press, 2014).
