I got the Doctoral degree in Human Geography from Uppsala University. I got the Doctoral degree from the Department of Social and Economic Geography, Uppsala University in December 2016. The topic of my Doctoral research was power relations between Indonesian women migrant domestic workers and their Malaysian employers. In the research I developed intersectional, feminist Foucauldian analyses to understand power relations in the form of spatialised domination practices and labour exploitation by the employers, and spatialised resistance practices by the workers.

A previous work experience at the National Commission on Violence against Women (Komnas Perempuan) in Indonesia contributed in shaping my early interests in gender and migration, with particular focus on the rights of women migrant domestic workers. Previous education in rather diversed disciplines in social sciences--International Relations (Bachelor level) and Gender Studies majoring in Political Science (Master level), and Human Geography (Doctoral level)--had allowed me to analyse the work migration phenomena from various disciplinary view points.
