Madeleine Michaëlsson - History of Education
My research area is the history of education, with a special focus on economic issues and private funding. I have a PhD in Sociology of Education and my thesis was a part of the project The Financing of the Swedish Elementary School, 1842–1936, directed by Johannes Westberg and funded by the Swedish Research Council, Handelsbanken’s Research Foundation and Sven and Dagmar Salén’s Research Foundation.
During 2010-2012, I have also been involved in the project Sixty-Eight. The Swedish Student Rebellion, Its Social Conditions, and Its Effects on Cultural Fields. A Study in the Sociology of Educational Change, directed by Donald Broady and funded by the Swedish Research Council.
In recent years, my focus has been more on research than instruction but, with a long background as a practising teacher, I have always conducted theoretical and proven consideration in parallel. In the course of my career, I have been educating pupils in elementary and upper secondary school, as well as university students. My pedagogical experience spans more than two decades and ranges from the art of operant and respondent conditioning to the art of democratic debate.
