I am Associate Professor of Slavic Languages at the Department of Modern Languages and also Research Fellow at the Uppsala Centre for Russian and Eurasian Studies. Prior to my appointment at Uppsala University in 2010, I was Assistant Professor at Dalarna University. I received my undergraduate degree at the University of Washington, and my master’s and doctoral degrees in Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
I specialize in 20th- and 21st-century literature. During the years 2010-2013, I held a grant from the Swedish Research Council for my project “History through the Prism of Memory: Post-Communist Prose Fiction from Central and Eastern Europe.” This project examines the theme of memory in recent novels and short stories from the countries of the former East Bloc. This research has been published in a number of articles and book chapters and will also appear in a monograph.
My current research interests also include translingual literatures and translation studies. In June 2014, I co-organized the international conference “Translation in Russian Contexts: Transcultural, Translingual and Transdisciplinary Point of Departure” at Uppsala University.
At the Department of Modern Languages I teach courses and supervise degree theses in Russian literary and cultural history.
