Research Interests

My present research interest is city branding and tourism. I study how Stockholm's tourism industry has evolved from World War II until today. Through interviews and written source material, I examine changes in the organizing of the city's tourism as well as that of specific tourist sights. My results will be published by the publisher Stockholmia during autumn 2011.The study is part of the larger project Growth, Tradition and Renewal: The Economic History of Stockholm since 1945.
Previously I studied wholesalers in Stockholm during the 1700s which resulted in my PhD thesis in 2007. The main purpose of this study was to examine the merchants’ social and economic strategies. Previous research on this group has largely confined itself to studying the richest with the result that the group appeared to be modern in their behavior. I studied all merchant active in Stockholm regardless of wealth. In particular, I study their financial transactions and marriage patterns, I could show that their conduct did not exhibit modern activity, but that they had, rather, a more traditional approach to these activities.

Teaching experiences

I have mainly supervised undergraduate students writing papers.
