Project Coordinator in the KIC-InnoEnergy Uppsala (http://www.kic-innoenergy.com/co-locations/cc-sweden.html) and Uppsala Berzelii Technology Centre for Neurodiagnostics (www.berzelii.uu.se). I took my PhD 2004 with a thesis on biomolecular processes in the neurodegenerative disorder of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). I continued my research on ALS as postdoc and researcher until 2012. Between 2009-2012 I had a position as director of postgraduate studies at the Dept of Chemistry - BMC.
My area of research is the process of neurodegeneration with special focus on the neurodegenerative disorders Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Parkinson’s disease.
Although diverse in clinical symptoms, ALS and Parkinson’s disease are both characterized by a progressive loss of neural tissue leading to a severe decrease in nervous system functionality. A common pathogenic mechanism is the aggregation and accumulation of misfolded proteins that lead to the formation of intra- and extracellular aggregates, such as Lewy bodies in Parkinson’s disease and hyaline inclusions in ALS. These abnormal protein-protein interactions are also believed to have neurotoxic effects. There is today no curative treatment for any of these disorders.
